Forest management of City Forest and Twining Pit
The city is starting prescribed timber harvesting, beginning with invasive plant control at the Twining Pit property in Winterport before thinning its red pine stand.
Forest Management Plans for Brown Woods and Essex Woods
The city is rolling out ten-year management plans for its wooded parks, focused on forest health, safety, and recreation rather than logging. Essex Woods also supports a dog park, mountain bike trails, and premier birding habitat, while crews monitor the invasive red pine scale threatening local pine stands.
